King Arthur DVD, Director's Cut

I was given the DVD release of Bruckheimer's film as a Christmas gift and
watched it last night. However, mostly due to the flood of reviews on the
Arthurnet listserv and elsewhere, I never saw the theatrical release of
the film. Aside from the alternate ending (which IMHO was rightly cut),
could someone tell me what the main additions were in the DVD release
(rated 'R') versus the theatrical release (rated 'PG-13')? Thanks!

The battle scenes were not as graphic in the PG-13 version. No heads getting
lopped off or arrows in the eyes. (whis was way more fun to watch! >grin<)

As Debra says, the battle scenes were far more graphic and lengthy.
They would have been the reason for an R rating had they not been cut.
The Director's Cut version on the DVD doesn't contain any more explicit
sex scenes than appeared in the theater.

A number of other scenes among the characters were shortened to some
extent for the theatrical version. The most notable one which was
actually completely missing from the theater version is of a very young
Arthur talking with Pelagius and making the clay medallion of the
monk.

And I liked the alternate ending much better than that sappy new age thing.

I'd agree. The standing stones ala Stonehenge threw one too many
elements in for me. Then when all the flaming arrows are shot out over
the water I was cringing...no...not a Viking funeral boat, please!!!
Thankfully, they didn't do that, but the scene from First Knight still
came to mind. My son commented (in his best Monty Python/British
accent) I 'ope no one's out there fishing."

It was nice to have a happy ending with the wedding, but the alternate
one did fit the film better, even though the scene was never completed.
Fuqua commented that had they finished it, the smoke of Lancelot's
funeral pyre would have been seen wafting up into those sunset clouds.
That would have worked pretty well.

I guess my final take on the movie - both versions - is that I like it a
lot, yet it is disappointing in that they got so much wrong, even of the
Sarmatian theory. But, it was a heck of a lot better than Lancelot:
Guardian of Time!

Forever burned into my random access memory is the scene of the
inflatable alligator popping out of the mote and bouncing on the castle
floor...

'nuff said.

Why so? Britain is packed with standing stones? Some of the sites may
have been used for ceremonies such as weddings.

I think I'll have to watch it again... I was disappointed in both endings.
